My time at Father Yermo High School has been a spledind experience with a great community. The environment is comfortable and all the students share the values of Saint Father Yermo. However, I would like to see more activities and clubs in the school. My brother attended that high school, and it contained several clubs. Nevertheless, when I came to the high school, the activities and clubs were lesser. Although it does not include many extracurricular courses, the academics are in high level. The main courses that a student can get is Honors, AP, and Dual Credit. I am greatful with the school with permitting the students the access of online college classes in El Paso Community College. I will earn credits in my college studies. The school also gives scholarships to students with high rates in the GPA and in their service to the community. I am thankful with Mr. Miles, who is associated with the high school, to offer me an scholarship during my four years of high school.
Most of the teachers at Father Yermo High School are amazing. Very qualified and experienced. Some of their strongest educational fields are Mathematics, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy And Physiology), Government, and History. However, something to point out is that the central office will constantly try to gain money out of you. They tend to do this by making families sell chocolate boxes, sell raffle tickets, sell tickets for specific events, making you participate in a bazaar, and some other activities. They also take the liberty to fine you with real money if the student breaks any rule. Some of the most well-known infractions are uniform infractions that range from 10 to 50 dollars. Overall, the high school offers good education, with amazing teachers, but the people with power do not know how to handle a school.
The small environment provides a personalized student-teacher relationship and within the students themselves. The athletics department, although small, is great. I was a varsity player in soccer for my whole studies here and basketball for one year, and I can confirm they have a good program; they are incredibly kind people and overall an excellent way to grow as a teenager. In academics, I wish they had the ability to incorporate AP courses, honors classes might not be enough for the over-achievers. As most are from Juarez and cross the bridge every day, the school supports international students like myself a good deal. Speaking Spanish is nowhere near mandatory, but for cultural involvement among students, it certainly is helpful. I'm glad I went here, nothing more to say.
