I have had a wonderful experience at Fairview High School and it has provided me with so many opportunities. The teachers and the community at Fairview are what make it so unique. Without the support, dedication, time, and connection I made with teachers I wouldn't be where I am today. The one thing I would change is having more opportunities to look closer at my future. It would be helpful if the school provided more speakers or learning opportunities to help students figure out what type of carrier is best suited for them. Overall, I have made so many amazing memories, friends, and I have learned so much. I am grateful to have had the privilege to go to the Fairview!
The music program is incredibly good, and I received a lot of development as a musician/performer just by participating in Fairview's musical ensembles, performances, and opportunities. The general student culture is fair, and I did find my group of friends, and the majority of the teachers are very good and supportive. However, there are problems with the administration, and with their handling problems such as sexual assault among students/refusal to adequately help students struggling with these issues. There is somewhat low cultural and racial diversity, and an overall competitive/highly academic culture.
I felt that Fairview high school was a good fit for me because I have always been very passionate about the arts, and Fairview happens offers a wide diverse variety of amazing arts programs I could choose from to learn more about all the different medias and expand my love and knowledge of the arts. Something I would change would be the rape culture that exists at the school, and the way whe district and administration deals with it. In my four years at this school, there have been many instances of girls getting sexually harassed, assaulted, and even raped, and it continues to happen which administration previously did almost nothing about it. It makes me very upset how the administration has dealt with instances like these in the past such as telling the girls "boys will be boys" and not to worry about it. A change I would like to see would be more education about consent and the repercussions of doing anything nonconsensual, as well as holding them accountable for their actions.
