My experience at Fairfax High School was great! Despite it's large size, the school is filled with such a diverse group of people that you are bound to find someone of similar interests. There are so many ways to get support and help from teachers and staff. The one thing I would like to see change or more so added is increase high school spirit. I feel like some particular sports do not nearly get as much attention as others and it would be great if the school can advertise them more so more students can come to these events.

There are great things about Fairfax, and some not so great things. I feel that Fairfax provides a lot of opportunities for students to succeed through extracurricular activities/after school opportunities. They work to try to involve as many students as they can within the Fairfax community and try to make a space for a variety of individuals and personal interests. I feel that the material that they teach is great, but some of the teachers that teach it are not so great. Fairfax is also a fairly competitive school academically which both motivates and hinders students’ growth and motivation to continue their academic studies into college. The thing that I was uncomfortable with was the Rebels mascot, because of the history behind it and the offense that it brings to such a diverse student body that Fairfax has today. I feel that they need to change the mascot all together and stick with just the Lion, getting rid of “Rebel” when referencing the school and it’s students.
Fairfax highschool overall lacks action which by fair the largest downfall of the school. When it comes to bullying, threats, etc. I have found that often times they either ignore it or do very little to fix the situation. In my last 3 years attending Fairfax high school, we have had instances every year which makes me feel less safe at the school. From rapes to attempted school shootings and even student-teacher relations I find that Fairfax does very little if anything at all to make Fairfax a safe place. As it regards academics they do allow for many opportunities for students to grow which I have enjoyed throughout my years I have attended. Lastly, Fairfax has many afterschool clubs and opportunities for students to take advantage of which has helped me and many others integrate into high school life and prepare us for college and life after academics. Not only have the clubs helped to well-round us but it has been a great source to find new friends.
