I love Everest because it is highly a small school! It gives me the opportunity to reach out to my teachers, getting one on one help, and overall create relationships with them. It is definitely a college prep school where we are surrounded by my technology and playlists that help us independently study on our own. We have a tradition every year where all freshman, sophomore, junior, and seniors go on a camping trip and create community bondings! It is diverse which makes me feel more like at home since I am from East Palo Alto and not Redwood City. They give the best elective classes that are UC Approved, for example, Ethnic Studies, in which a few schools don't really include. I am in my Junior year and had spent the last 2 in a half years has an unweighted GPA of a 4.0. Everest gives all students the opportunity to be in AP classes to give them the challenge of their education. Overall, it is a great school and can't believe I am leaving in less than 2 years!
I enjoyed the very close and small community, it was easy to know everyone in your grade by name. Also, the way the system works allows you to work at a certain pace, for fast-paced students, this is a very good school do to the fact that you could be a freshman but if you a "faster learner" then it allows you to finish all your work freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year work ahead of time. The only thing that is somewhat "terrible" is the constant fluctuation of a teacher leaving or coming. It's a challenging system for people who have never experience it before, we use a system called PLP which basically is like a required amount of work, sort of like mini-tests but online. These mini-tests or content as they are know by are required in order to pass the year with a B, of course taking projects into consideration. To get a full A or A+ you have to do another more in-depth mini-test or additional as it is called, its a more complex and depth version of a content assessment.
I like how it's a small school overall and not such a big crowded school where the teachers can't really get to know each kid personally. I enjoyed us having "SDL" which stands for self-direct learning which was time for us to work on whatever it was that we needed to work on. I would say SDL really is making us practice a skill which is making ur yourself be responsible for working on our work since in college that's what we have to do. I also like how even though we are a small school we still tried to do things that other huge schools do like formal and prom as well as maybe things those schools don't have like going camping, having "Olympics" and having a mentor group (it's like your 2nd family.) Something I would like for EPHS to have later in the future is a more range amount of languages we can learn because currently we only have Spanish and I really wanted to learn french.
