I attended Evansville Day for high school. The classes and student body are small, in a good way. Everyone knows literally everybody, and you meet people from all walks of life, from all over Evansville, Southern Indiana, and even Kentucky and Illinois. I was able to bypass required math and foreign language instruction in college thanks to advanced courses offered by Evansville Day. It offers the small sizes and elite academics with traditional high school social options. Although naturally smaller in scale, Evansville Day offers competitive athletics (particularly boys basketball) with fun atmospheres, typical events like prom and homecoming, and an award-winning musical arts program. There are additional fun events that only an Evansville Day-sized school can offer; Progressive Dinner, Intersession (out-of-class education including international trips occurring the week before spring break), and Senior Projects (school-sponsored job shadowing for seniors). It was perfect for me!
I've been at EDS for about 7 years now, and I can't imagine myself anywhere else. My favorite thing about it is the community and the people there, including the teachers. I've made friendships and found mentors that I know I'll have for the rest of my life. EDS clearly accepts and welcomes a diverse group of students and teachers, and is so supportive, as well as challenging. Extracurricular activities are encouraged and open to all, and each have a no-cut policy. At times, it is difficult to maintain a balance because each student is so involved with so many activities-it can be hard to maintain balance. However, this is a key challenge to life and EDS encourages resilience, as well as understanding. Teachers can be accommodating as long as the circumstance is explained. Global mindedness, resilience, balance, and entrepreneurial learning are four of the key values of all EDS graduates, and each prepares us for a successful and happy life.
Great academics and music/art programs! The teachers are very knowledgeable, supportive and willing to help me when I need it. The small class sizes make the Day School experience more personal and welcoming for students, but I hope the high school gains students to increase diversity and opportunities for clubs/activities, as well as types of friend groups for students who may not fit in a "normal" social setting like myself. However, as I have gotten to know my Day School family better, I can say that I feel at home here and that I have a lot of great friends.
