Now being a senior, I rate my overall Erath High School experience a 6/10. As an African American though, going to this school is impactful. This school is a predominately white school and from my opinion they do not pay attention/care about the racist things that take place here. What I would like to see change is bettering the punishments for the racial things that do take place here as well as not just assigning coaches as teachers. Something else about Erath High school is they just give the same people a chance instead of everyone. If you do not have a name or are not well-off then you will not make it in this school. From my perspective, the only way to make it in this school is if you are white and well off. The teaching and staff is exceptionally well, although we do have coaches as teachers which can have an effect on learning. With having a coach as a teacher, makes me not want to learn because they do not know what they are talking about.
The community and schooling was great. Events like homecoming are really big and make for fun additions to an overwise boring task of attending school. The courses are mostly well taught and the classwork was never overwhelming. The buildings however are old. The "temporary" building put in after a hurricane in 2005 are still there, some of which do not have portions of the wall or ceiling paneling. People have even fallen through the floor. It is the only real downside to the school.
I loved Erath High. The teachers and faculty were amazing . The schooling was not too hard and you have freedom while also having discipline. I would not be where I am today without Erath High School. Things that I would like to see change is the dress code and cleanliness. The dress code needs to be changed because it targets young girls. The dress code is not the same for girls and boys when it should be. I also think that the school should be cleaner. Doors, toilets, sinks are all falling apart and that is not safe or clean enough for the students, teachers, and faculty at this school.
