Encina is full of the most interesting individuals with the most unique backgrounds. In addition to providing us with an education, our school, although very impoverished, provides it's students with opportunities to build the content of their character. With students coming from all over the world, the diversity of the campus in comparison to our neighboring schools is off the charts. I personally came to Encina my freshman year expecting the worse, due to it's notorious reputation. There have been many many bumps in the road but students and staff have worked hard to change the narrative about our school. Getting the community to stop judging the school based on previous generations has been a tiring, uphill, battle, especially when students begin becoming discouraged by the harsh judgments. Despite it's negative reviews, Encina has given me the opportunity to see the value in building your community, without attending a school like this, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
Overall Encina is a good school. The school is financially not doing well at the moment but we’re fine. There are a lot of fights but the teachers break it up fairly good. The learning is alright, lucky for me I have teachers that care for my and other students educations, safety, and healthy. They try to understand and be flexible with their students because they know everyone has different circumstances. The school is well diverse with A bunch of different ethnicities in it. There are some things we can’t do because it’s a split school with High school and middle school.
My experience at Encina high school has been great amidst all the stereotypes. One of the things I like the most about Encina is the great diversity there is.Diversity in a school is really what makes students feel safe and comfortable in a school environment. And that’s the best thing about Encina you can find so much about it.One thing I would like to see Change is the stereotypes people have made about this school. The stereotypes include this school being “ghetto” which means a poor and urban part of a city which is occupied by minorities. I really wish people could see the real community behind Encina.
