I think Laney is a fairly average high school. It would certainly benefit from more resources -- extra classrooms, additional faculty, and a larger cafeteria, to name a few. Laney is somewhat underserved, and while the school cannot be blamed for this, it can be criticized for biased and frustrating budget allocations. Since Laney is a fairly large school, it does have a sufficient number of clubs and courses to choose from; Laney also works with a local community college to maintain an excellent dual-enrollment program. There are some admirable teachers and staff here as well. I've never felt unsafe at school, and I've managed to forge my own path and find my niche here. Just like any other school, Laney has its benefits and drawbacks.

Laney High School is relatively close in proximity to my house, so the drive to and from school was never a problem. The actual school however, had its perks, but also had its negatives. Some teachers cared about their students well being and learning, but other teachers just saw everyday as another day at work, nothing more than that. Some perks included it still being close to everything around me, and the great AP courses offered, as well as dual enrollment with the local community college for college credits post graduation.
What I like about Emsley A. Laney High School is the diversity. There are many foreign exchange students, students from France, Korea, etc. There is so many students with different cultures and beliefs and you get to have a wide variety of people and you can make some truly great friends that are completely different. I also like how much responsibility we have as students. They treat us like young adults and allow us to grow and become more independent.
