I thought Emmett High School was the perfect place to learn because it was just the right size that you were able to get to know everyone and participate easily in student clubs and organizations! The faculty are all well rounded people, and are there to help you and encourage you succeed, and go on to college. I always felt like I was able to seek help if I needed it and motivated to do my best.

Emmett High School definitely caters more to its star athletes than it does to those who put effort into their schoolwork or more artistic pastimes. Our marching band only recently got new uniforms after 20 years, thanks to a fundraiser not directly affiliated with the high school.
Despite the obvious bias in favor of athletes, Emmett High does succeed in preparing students for college (at least the ones who dedicate time and effort into their schoolwork). The English and math departments (headed by Tina Myers and Michael Brune) are surprisingly good and have prepared me for college-level courses. The IDLA (online courses) available are also very helpful and high-quality, and they make earning credits toward a degree much easier.
Overall, Emmett High School is decent for what it has. The building itself is terrible (students are blinded by light when they go outside because they have been in a windowless dome all day), but the academics are generally high quality.
Emmett High School is a place where everyone at school is on a first name basis. At the Veteran's Day assemblies, I can hug the elders, who grin at me and tell me they haven't seen me in a while. I know my school's janitors' life stories. This small-town community builds an atmosphere of constant connection, school spirit, love, and support from one person to the next, from one generation to the other.

However, this intimate community also reveals small town judgment that can be overwhelming, but if you do not get involved, it does not matter.
