I like the opportunities offered at Elkhorn. There are a lot of options that you are able to choose from. I think the trimester system is good because it offers more time to try new things. I think some of the funding for different extracurricular groups needs to be increased. For example the Drama Department could use some more funding and even the Musical Arts department needs more funding. Afterall, more kids make it to State for Musical Arts than for sports.
Elkhorn Area High School is full of opportunities for kids with all interests. They do so much to give kids more than the traditional classroom experience. They have internship and apprenticeship programs which allow students to get outside of the classroom to earn credit and real life work experience. Elkhorn also has pretty good all around sports teams and extra curricular activities. Teachers are helpful and knowledgeable on their subject. One thing I would like to see more of is administration actually knowing their students. I know there are a lot of kids which makes this difficult but I am top 5 in my class, yet I do not think the administration knows who I am. They are very distant from most student's lives making it difficult to feel comfortable going to them if a problem every occured.
I'm currently a senior at Elkhorn High School, and I'm heavily involved in the music program here. The band director is one of the best I have had the pleasure of working with, but she is not provided with the necessary resources to grow the program. She is forced to run the entire high school program while running the 8th grade program. The administration here does not seem to give the arts as much resources as they should. They are incredibly lucky to have the band director that they do, because she does so much to make the program as strong as it is. I've had problems with how the administration has handled any form of mental health emergencies that have been reported. Either nothing gets done, or anything that does get done isn't helpful. The academics here are average at best. The retake policy is ridiculously lax. The weight room is nice though.
