Elk River High School is an amazing school that is full of opportunities for any student that walk in the doors. The staff goes out of there way to welcome students, and creat a great learning environment that promotes a healthy desire to learn and focus each and every day. ERHS is the perfect sized school since it is not too big but not too small, which makes it easy to make a wide variety of friends, while also feeling close to your classmates. There are a multitude of classes that are available to all students including multiple painting, clay, sculpting, drawing, culinary, woodwork, and photography classes that majority of students enjoy and excell at. We have a phenominal band and choir, and our football team goes all the way to the state championship nearly every year! ERHS is also known for our amazing hockey team, and because of this a brand new hockey area was established. Anything you could want in a school is offered at ERHS and would be a great place to learn and excell!

Overall, my experience at Elk River High School was quite good. This is really due to the teachers—they (at least, the majority of them) really care about the students. In particular, those that teach the advanced curriculum tended to be engaging and transformative (Allison Harmer, Sandra Lerud, Kirstin Anderson, Troy McGowan, Mary Kage, to name a few). The school (and district in general) seems to have chronic funding shortages, however. Albeit they offer a good course selection for the size of the school (including all of the major AP classes). The administration prioritizes athletic activities over clubs, the fine arts, and often times academics. It is really a shame they keep building more athletic buildings as class sizes are getting upwards of 40. The administration needs to address the pressing issues at hand in order to make this school good for everyone.
They have great options for people who love art because there are a variety of many different things to choose from. For example there's photography, woodshop, painting/drawing, clay, jewelry, graphic design and studio art. They even have many different clubs that you can join and do after school which can help you to meet new people. I've personally have been lucky with my high school experience to have had many amazing teachers who I've been able to connect with and will even continue to keep in contact with after high school. The only problem I have with the school is the administration office people and counseling office people because they were not as helpful and a lot of times biased towards certain students, which made it very frustrating sometimes.
