The AP track is very strong, and there are many opportunities to take difficult classes. As a Spectrum transfer with siblings who are Spectrum graduates, I can confirm the "college readiness" at Elk River is much stronger, and provides opportunities for credits that actually transfer (where AP is accepted at every school, and College At Spectrum High School classes transfer to local community colleges and nowhere else). Do not be fooled by how Spectrum advertises itself--their college readiness is below average and Elk River offers a strong AP curriculum in a typical high school setting.

I feel as though overall my high school experience has been pretty exciting. First, the teaching staff at Elk River High School are very supportive. All of the teachers I have had throughout my high school career have helped me become the person that I want to be. They were able to help me through some rough times as well as helping me decide what I wanted to do after high school. Next, I will have to give credit to our counselors who were able to help me over the past year from helping me apply for scholarships and for college. While all the staff that makes up the school are incredibly helpful there is one thing that I wish would change. I am friends with several people that are apart of the art programs at Elk River High School. I feel as though the school overall does not give enough credit for what they do. Overall, my high school experience academically was incredible and I am sad to see it all go away soon but the teachers I had really helped shape who I am as a human being.
I love this high school. Definitely would recommend to kids just moving here into elk river.
