ERHS offers lots of AP classes which is really the main appeal. It's a small community, so you'll know pretty much everyone in your grade. They prepare you for the SAT really well, and our sports department (mainly basketball, soccer, and volleyball) is pretty good.
However, there are almost no extracurricular options that aren't just sports. There is an FRC team (5110, Robo Herd) but it receives no school funding. The school is also not very accommodating or friendly to students who struggle with learning. Special education teachers are often borderline rude, and options for accommodations are very limited.

The teachers and the events that they put on for the students made the overall school system a fun space to learn in. I wish they put more money into making repairs to the music and theatre departments rather than remove a majority of their funding to put into sports. The people in charge of the school need to put more effort into maintaining the music and theatre departments, as well allow students the time in their schedules to take these important classes for their psychological growth.
As a senior at Elk Rapids High School, I wouldn't have wanted my high school experience at any other school. At Elk Rapids High School you'll find friends right away and the teachers will welcome you will a smile on their faces. You'll create memories that will last you years, such as going to your first homecoming dance and or game where everyone is showing their school spirit. There are sports for everyone and whatever passion you have whether it be in equestrian, tennis, or football, Elk Rapids will have it for you. Being ranked #54 out of 950+ Michigan schools you will not be disappointed in enrolling here. There will also be a bond that will hopefully get passed in the next year or so to help improve the overall look of the school, with a new gym, better classrooms, and an improvement in technology, so it will be better than it already is for future students to come.
