The school's motto is 'showing pride, taking action' and it is lived up to every day. The teachers are dedicated to educate support every student who walks through the doors at EPJ (even the most challenged students are greatly helped). The faculty and staff members create a safe and clean learning environment throughout each school year. Students are made sure to feel welcomed by taking frequent surveys, answering questions, and adding input on what they feel should the school to show and act. Elk Point-Jefferson School District outshines other schools and set the bar high!
The classes are well-taught for the most part. However, due to a small amount of teachers, class sizes are usually 20+ students. It is pretty safe, and most students get along with each other. I enjoyed my time at EPJ, but it is a little too small for me. If you like a small small school in a small town, then Elk Point-Jefferson is the perfect school for you.
I like Elk Point-Jefferson High School because it is a very clean and well-kept school. The reason I didn't give it the full five stars is because I believe that the students should be given more freedom. For example, juniors and seniors, who take online dual credit classes, should be able to stay at home during that specific period. This will make for a shorter amount of time spent in the physical school building, and it will result in focused class time. I believe this change will help students focus because sometimes all we need is a change in scenery in order to get back into the learning mindset. The best way to get students to focus is to give them a mental break. Otherwise, the students feel trapped for eight hours with no other choice other than to sit, listen, and hopefully retain information. The other positive this change would bring is preparedness for college. It will help students understand the importance of time management.
