I attended E-town during 5th-11th grades. The community is very vibrant and welcoming and the other students and staff are very open to new ideas. During my high school experience (2020-2023), I helped create the magic of the "Little Women" and "Into The Woods" musicals and "The Curious Savage" play. There is so much opportunity to grow and shine in the spotlight. I met my best friends there and wouldn't ever dream of doing everything differently. The choir, band, and orchestra groups are very interwoven and connected as well as some of the best people I have ever met. The crisis counselor, Ms. Barnhart, helped me get through some of the most difficult times of my life. My creative writing teacher, Ms. Lassandro, helped me channel my emotions into writing instead of fighting & pushing people away. Thanks to her, I had the confidence to publish some of the things I wrote in her class online and feel like I'm famous. E-town helped me become confident in who I am and what I can do.
As a former student of Elizabethtown Area High School, I can confidently say that it was a decent educational institution. Throughout my time there, I found the overall academic experience to be satisfactory. The teachers were knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, always willing to go the extra mile to help students understand the material. The variety of courses offered allowed for a well-rounded education, with options in both core subjects and electives.
Overall, this was not a bad schooling experience. We were underfunded and definitely lacking some resources (such as books that were not falling apart), but isn't just about every school in America? Covid obviously put a damper on a lot of my school experience and the faculty did not do much to try to fill the gap there. It was very much the small town school experience in which football Fridays were very fun and everyone knew each other, however, with that, rumors and fights spread very fast and you would never feel safe enough around the students OR teachers to be out as a member of the lgbtq community or even have progressive ideals shared out loud.
