Eldon High School is a school that is starting to push the limits on not only academics but performing arts, athletics, and clubs in low-income school districts. EHS is a school that places academics above all else, but has local, district, state, and nationally recognized athletes, teams, clubs, and organizations. EHS teachers are teachers who excel in their teaching, and it shows with many of them carrying career awards and honors. EHS is a place where it has begun to put their students mental and physical health as a top priority, with a recently added nurse practitioner, therapist, and a district wide after school program that prepares students for the present and future.
I love living in Eldon and attending school here. They are doing an excellent job trying to stop the spread of Covid-19. The only real negatives are the other students. There are just some really odd people that go to school. The only other negative is the average income for the community. We are a very poverty-stricken community and it shows in the students. There is a ton of community support, but some parents just care more about their drug addiction than their kids and you can see it.
Eldon High School has been a great experience for me. As a military kid who has moved numerous times, I was quickly accepted and found the culture very welcoming. The staff are always available for instruction and support. Playing football and running track have added to a great experience. They also provide an excellent career center that partners with the state colleges for dual credit. Graduating with 28 credit hours is helping take some of the financial strain off my college debt. I learned in the Personal Finance class the importance of manageable debt and making good decisions at this stage of my life. As I sought furthering my education, the counseling office provided a lot of guidance in scholarships and NCAA eligibility. Because of their help, I will be playing football for my college. In conclusion, my overall experience at Eldon was excellent and prepared me academically and athletically for the next level of education.
