ECHS is a very interesting place in that anybody could have any type of experience they desire. Our school offers classes, clubs, and activities of all types ranging from casual gatherings to serious commitments. Anybody particularly inquisitive about a subject can find unexpected resources by asking the right teacher, and the staff is flexible and will accommodate for any legitimate concerns you bring them. The band program has over 150 year-round members, and is one of ECHS's strongest communities as well. The James Morehouse project provides free or inexpesive healthcare and support for the student body. The school's atmosphere is casual and it is a refreshing place to be.

For me, El Cerrito High School was neither a hostile, or docile environment. The problem was not the school itself, but simply the type of people whom were present in the school, meaning that the student body present at the school, was also a problem for themselves. These problem stemmed mainly from general immaturity and rudeness from many students, as well as a lack of respect for anyone who they do not associate with, but in the schools defense, its not like these problems went unseen for the teachers and other workers of the school sought to "root out" these impurities with varying effect, but all in all, the school still does provide a dependable education, mostly from the fact that the teachers all seek out the betterment of every student present at the school.
Some staffs here are just terrible, lazy, uncooperative, and just don't care. It is hard to be motivated to learn when you look at what people do in the hallways. Kids will horde the hallways and be as loud as they can so they get attention. Security guards and staffs don't try to discipline these kids either and the rules are only enforced on the good kids. The school culture is a joke, there are constantly fire alarms being pulled because kids smoke weed in the bathrooms. So although this school is being rated considerably better than the other schools near, this is no where close to how a proper high school should be conducted.
