El Cerrito High is an amazingly diverse school full of students from all backgrounds. Similar to the student population, the teachers cover a wide spectrum of ability. At this school, I have experienced both the best and worst teachers I believe I will ever have. While El Cerrito High's bathrooms are a mess and its school spirit is lacking, it has many notable redeeming qualities. Many people that I know chose to attend this school because of its excellent band program. The band at El Cerrito has won multitudes of awards and has been able to go on many trips around the world to perform at places such as Disneyland, Carnegie Hall, and even locations in Europe. El Cerrito High also has some amazing clubs that are dedicated to a wide variety of purposes, such as tutoring other students struggling in math, helping the community or the environment, and getting students involved in sports. Despite its flaws, there is a lot to love about this school.
El Cerrito High School was a very resourceful high school and readily prepared me for college. With the knowledge learned at El Cerrito high school, I was able to apply it to my college knowledge and was on track with college curriculum. I would recommend this high school to anyone in the California area. In addition, the school atmosphere was very outstanding, I felt very safe and protected in El Cerrito's environment. The staff was accommodating as well. Academics within this school was outstanding and staff ensure that students were college and career ready.
I feel being at El Cerrito High School has taught me a lot of things in and out of the classroom. I can't say it's shaped me into the person I am today, but it's definitely brought me more exposure to the "real world" than I feel other high schools in the West Contra Costa District do.
In the aspect of well being, or lack thereof, ECHS doesn't have the "safest" campus.
One thing you can count on at El Cerrito High School is teachers and faculty who are willing to help you hands down. Of course there will ways be some bad apples, but a majority of the teacher there are helpful if you're willing to take initiative and ask.
A member of the ECHS faculty who has helped me immensely throughout my senior year of high school has been my counselor Ms. Campos. She always has some time to set aside for her students to answer questions and truly cares about their aspirations, path, well being, and in turn, what to do to bring them closer to that.
