Teachers are extremely hit or miss... many dont teach at all, and just leave you with tests and work that was never explained, but there are a few good ones! The security is not good, and in the past few years the amount of "fires" and safety scares we have had are ridiculous. We are very diverse but the diversity is cliquey, almost in a socially segregated way. Also we have a block schedule that makes AP testing and remembering old skills hard. Overall, its better than many other schools in the district, but its still not great.

Currently I am going to Junior year at El Cerrito high school, and I’m glad I got to experience my high school years at El Cerrito. El Cerrito high school is very diverse and there is no way you won’t fit in. One of my favorite things about El Cerrito is our semester system. Compared to other they don’t have this option and I’m very glad we got it because I was able to take classes I show more interest in than other. I was also able to double up on classes. The other thing I like about semester system is that I feel like it helps me get ready for college because some colleges are quarter system and it’s just better in general to already have the ablility to learn faster in a shorte amount of time. I also met some of my bestfriends here!
The best part of El Cerrito High School is that making friends was easy. There are so many people here that share my interests and academic level. I have also found it easy to trust my teachers with my personal life and struggles that may be going on. If I were to change one thing, it'd would be class availability . Sometimes I find it hard to get into the classes I need to take to challenge myself. I would also change the school spirit. We tend not to be very excited about rallies, school fundraisers, and other events. I wish people wanted to participate in our school's community more.
