When I was at Edison, I thought it was the smallest and most run-down school in the county (except for Lee). And within Fairfax County that may have been true, but once I go to college I realized my graduating class was bigger than many of my classmates entire schools and that the quality of education at ANY Fairfax County school was far superior than most else in the state and the country. The whole IB thing, not a huge fan after the fact since all my classmates came into college with so much AP credit and I got ZERO. The max HL classes a student can do is four but you can take as many AP tests as you want, plus AP tests are easier! Sure, you may not learn as much or be as good of a writer if you do AP rather than IB, but that college credit could enable you to graduate earlier and save a lot of money. For students that don't do IB there's little hope of getting into a top rated school (like UVA) and maybe one student every few years goes Ivy League from Edison.
Edison High School was a very interesting experience. I had a lot of amazing teachers, but there were a few that I struggled with. My first 2 years of high school were very hard on me emotionally. My junior year was amazing, I struggled in math and had a bad teacher but I made it out alright. Senior year so far is the best! I am having a lot of fun with my classes and my grades are good. Edison itself is an amazing school with mostly great teachers. It's the students that ruin the view of Edison. Every year a new freshman class comes it gets worse.
Thomas A. Edison is a well rounded, diverse, and caring school environment. The teachers are top notch - all of them care for their students and help them to achieve their full potential. They’re always willing to help a student out (whether it be something personal like you’re having a rough day, or something academic - many teachers will stay after school with students for further help) and they often form agreeable relations with students - creating an inviting and jovial learning environment. Our school facilities are also very pleasant - a recently renovated library with bean bag chairs, computers, and anything else you could need to do research. They also offer soccer fields, tennis courts, a softball field, a baseball field, a football field/track, and multiple gyms for sports year round. Another notable thing about Edison is the diversity - one of the most diverse schools in fairfax county - so the overall environment is super accepting and inclusive.
