E.C. Adams Middle School Reviews
Rating 2.7 out of 5 10 reviews
Overall, attending Adams Middle School was a very pleasant and enlightening experience. The teaching staff was highly dedicated to their students and the connections between the teachers and students is unmatched to any other school I have attending (which, being that I have moved seven times, is a big deal). I definitely appreciated the clean environment that enabled learning at the highest extent. The principal took the time to connect with the staff and students, which made it very easy for students to speak out in regards to any issue they may have experienced. Additionally, the guidance counselors were incredibly helpful. Whenever I had a class problem and wanted to switch or sort out a grading issue, they were elaborate in explaining any process that I undertook every step of the way.
My 1st daughter to attend-I never knew what was happening because she moved right along in school. My second daughter has needed more guidance and the teachers I have worked with (for 99% of the time) have been great (especially 7th grade teachers like Phillip Day, Mrs. Montanaro and Mrs. Hayash). Some TA's have been great too. The front office personnel needs to be switched. The lady there can be very sarcastic and biting to parents and kids. I have witnessed some interactions with kids and it made me wince. My kid saw the Principal chew out a teacher in front of a whole bunch of kids (while this teacher was volunteering to help with an event too). Pretty uncomfortable. The teachers aren't given voices at Adams. You don't disagree with the Principal there. It is her opinion in most cases. Too bad too...some amazing teachers there whose voices could shape this school. Would love a Principal that could connect with people...she struggles in that area. Some good people there. Mrs. Vanacore is awesome.
I think Adams did an ok job. I think it depends on the teachers you get. They don't level the classes there so you could be in a classroom and never get the attention you need (as an average student) because there are so many kids in there that require special help or emotional help. My kid gets no help at all because the TA in that room is dealing with the more needy of the kids and then the teacher has to help them because they don't know science. My kid loved science too. They level at the high school, therefore, are able to properly plan for the classes. Why can't they do that at Adams? Some of these teachers are really burdened by this system. Lots of kids get lost on certain teams because of it. Needs to desperately change. Adams has all the qualities to be a great school. They need to work on Principal, Front Office Staff and leveling and let the teachers be heard.
