Eastside College Preparatory School Reviews

Eastside definitely prepares you for college. However, the faculty definitely underestimates the abilities of the students and especially the parents. Since Eastside is a school that serves students from underrepresented backgrounds they tend to believe that the parents of students are incompetent. The school is also very controlling of what the students do. The schedules are organized and set in stone and students must attend summer classes at the school. There is little opportunity to do things outside of the school. Even when it comes to applying for colleges and universities the college advisor tends to convince students to shy away from schools Eastside students have never attended. Other than these issues, the school definitely prepares you for college.

Eastside College Preparatory is a school for students who are from underrepresented backgrounds and willing to dedicate themselves to their work. Eastside gives support to students who need it. I give this school a 4 out of 5 stars because the faculty underestimates the ability of the students. Summer school and volunteering were the only activities brought to the students during summer. I wanted to do an internship about science. Most internships, even those that underclassmen can apply for, were not offered to me. Even though internships were not brought to my attention, I applied for an internship called the Stanford Young Investigators. I was accepted and was the only African-American in the internship. Eastside College Preparatory should have confidence in all their students. Other than that, I think this school is great for students who want to succeed. The curriculum pushes its students to the fullest. If you can do well at Eastside, I believe you can do well anywhere.
The goal is getting underpresented minorites into college and Eastside does just that and then some. Eastside makes sure each student is provided with the necessary resources to be successful both in and out of the classroom. Whether it be through the dedication the teachers puts in for their students to understand content, to learning ways to take care of the environment, Eastside provides every individual a chance and run with it. That is what each person does throughout their years at Eastside, they are able to develop skills applicable to real life situations only for them to learn and grow more. Eastside has made a door when opportunity didn't knock for minority students, and it has done it well.
