I like the ESM Junior/Senior High School because it afforded me many opportunities to take Advanced Placement classes so that I could have a clear understanding of the expectations that will follow in a college classroom. Work was challenging but fair. One of my favorite classes was my AP Seminar class where I learned how to vet sources and throughly research controversial issues not commonly explored. This class was a challenge in that a large number of articles were required and Public Speaking was a must. We had 5 assessments throughout the year which gave more meaning to the class. One thing I wish they did a better job with is offering a bigger variety of clubs. I also wish my school offered a college level Public Speaking class. I believe the key to success in any subject area is learning how to effectively communicate my points. This class will better prepare me for college.
What I liked about attending Eastport South Manor High School throughout middle school and high school is the help from my advisors. They have prepared me for college and have always helped me with my struggles. Everyone is very friendly and has always been there to help one another with anything. Although the school has had its ups and downs, they have pulled through to keep students interacted and focused on their studies.
I attended ESM from 2011-2017. I participated in an array of activities, including marching band, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, field hockey, basketball, track and field, art club, honor societies, and more. When it comes to demographics, there is little to no diversity in teachers nor students. Most of the teachers are fine--a few are outstanding, and most sub-par. The arts and music programs are ESM's shining qualities.
