I graduated in 2016 from Eastern Wayne High school. My grandfather was an alum of the first graduating class here and my mom also graduated from EWHS. I was proud to have went to Eastern Wayne because it was known as one of the best schools in the district. But sadly, the resources for certain AP classes, or even honors weren't available but we could request to take an online class. Which not everyone knew about. So, if you ask your guidance counselor for certain opportunities and they like you, you can reach them and go farther. A lot of resources were only available to a handful of students, or if you knew how to get them yourself and advocate to get it. Overall, a very good school I excelled here, and I knew of many of my classmates who excelled here as well.
My experience at Eastern Wayne was not an experience at all. The school is more focused on test score and sports, rather than actually teaching it's students. The material is often taught vague and quickly in order for students to regurgite the information for the test and forget. The stuff shows extreme favoritism and can often be rude to students. The lessons are mediocre and often times "dumb" down for many students. There is also no school spirit and real guidance for students.
I went to eastern wayne high school half way through freshman year till I graduated senior year. The teachers help the best they can and are very well involved with the students. They have a variety of clubs for everyone to be involved in, but there could be more structure and involvement with the teachers in some of the clubs. Along with the clubs they had a lot of options for different classes for our electives. A few things I feel could improved is safety and more done to help students become college ready.
