East Lake High School has great teachers and guidance counselors striving to help students with all their goals. The competitive environment among the students helped myself strive to be the best student possible. There is many fun opportunities for seniors. Also, there is a variety of classes so everyone can find something they like (Engineering, Biomed, Robotics, Theater, Business/ Computer classes, and an endless amount of AP and dual enrollment classes.) We also have amazing sports teams with most of them winning district titles. If you are choosing between East Lake and another school I recommend going to East Lake. You won't regret it.
I loved my school many of the years that I attended east lake highschool, the school spirit was unmatched, and the teachers were amazing. Until this year, I loved going to school but after covid it seemed that I came back to an unfamiliar group of students, because of that year where everyone was online, no one participates in anything and honestly real friends are hard to recognize anymore. Many of my friends came back from our covid year depressed, many of them felt very alone after that long a period of isolation, and i feel as if the school is not doing much to help the students reunite. I understand that this break was in no way the schools fault, however student resources for struggling students are terrible, it takes me weeks to hear back from guidance counselors regarding college, and many of my friends who are struggling mentally or with family are not provided the help they deserve. I have seen no efforts from the school in bringing the student body back together.
This school is pretty basic of a school. However, as what Pinellas County Schools considers a scholar, I have had a fair share of both good and bad experiences. As for classes, they are ok, though if wanting to take an AP course, I would not recommend this school, the planning for the curriculum for these courses is a mess and I am noticing a decline in pass rates for the courses. I have also had a fair share of mistreatment from teachers that the school will do little to nothing about. Speaking of, if all students have an issue, usually socially such as suicide, the school takes forever to make changes or to even acknowledge them as well.
