East High School Reviews
Rating 3.49 out of 5 187 reviews
I love the majority of my teachers. They’re great and truly care about their students and want them to succeed. I’ve found many classes and clubs that fit my interests. Everyone can find an activity that fits their interests and thus find other people with the same interests. Although the sports teams don’t perform well, there are many to choose from.
The biggest problem is fighting on and near-campus and marijuana-use.

The first time things started to look up friendship wise, everyone is generally not a huge bully but there are some people who are just mean for no reason at times. The school is dirty, rats and bugs are common. The teachers are on the sucky side. I didn’t feel like I learned anything substantial until college. The teachers are very stuck on one teaching method. When you go to college even if you really worked at learning how to study, you will be left unprepared compared to your peers. Especially writing wise. All the teachers do is complain about the writing without actually teaching how to do better. I got A’s in college and high school for writing but only got my first F with 99% of my class because my teacher was feeling upset one day. AP teachers are *sometimes* better. Clubs and AP classes are essential or you will not be accepted to anything. College prep wouldn’t hurt either, especially if you are low income.
East High School is very diverse, and is often open to changing and evolving with it’s students. Unfortunately, it is not safe from it’s racist and sexist tendencies, as most schools. While I do know this is common across most districts, I still find it distasteful and an unfortunate part of the environment. I would say 80% of the teacher body is there for you, and ready to help you on your road to success. This academic year (2020) proved quite the challenge, but many of the staff still maintained a educational program, even if (yes this happened) they were carrying a crying baby during the class time. Despite East’s flaws, I am proud to be a part of it, and excited for the up coming year. One piece of advice I would give is to not join the pathways if possible. Instead, join AVID, which still prepares you for a more rigorous academic environment without locking you into a career choice. The AVID program is very good, and very accessible, open to anyone who wants to join.
