I found the school to be very unreliable and full of students who would attack you if you said the wrong thing. The staff don't try to control their kids what so ever. I would never send anyone too this school if you truly care about them.
EAST HIGH SCHOOL OVERALL IS VERY DIVERSE AND WELL ROUNDED. BEING ABLE TO BE SURROUNDED BY ALL TYPES OF SKIN COLORS IS MIND OPENING.
I think that for the most part, I enjoyed my high school experience at East high. Everyone has their own perspective and opinion about the school and I respect that. I believe that the school was very inclusive, each group had their own preferred group they'd hang out with and it wasn't difficult to make friends. School spirit and culture is very prevalent and its seen in athletic events. The athletic atmosphere was more dedicated to football and track and field and it focused a lot on male sports. The arts were not as well-founded as they should've, but the theater was praised because the teacher took the time and effort to teach their students. They had really great perfomences . I believe that the majority of teachers were helpful and didnt discrimate. I do beleive that the administration and teachers couldv'e done more to prepare students for college. The resources were available for students but it wasnt communicated effectivly which made college process a bit hard.
East high school is a very diverse school and is known to have rivalries. Besides that we are known for being on the east side of des moines. We are known to go through a lot of challenges and tend to overcome them. Our will is what makes us keep going forward. Our community is strong when it's needed the most.
In my opinion this school is one of my favorite I'm not just saying this because I go there I say it because I feel like its a second home. All the teachers and staffs are nice and caring and the diversity in that school it he highest in the district. we all understand each other and make each other feel better and when it comes to sports as students we respect other schools and we love to bring school spirit.
It's not a bad bad tool in your pocket if your looking for extra money to put towards your education.
It was an okay school , there was a lot of fights though. I did like how much diversity there was throughout the school.
Too many students in classes. Underfunded by the state! Teachers have too many classes that they teach and not enough prep times. They have to meet with many kids before and after school to make sure they get it. I was one of those kids. Without those teachers, I wouldn’t have done as well. The teachers are amazing! Counselors, were great at the beginning, but couldn’t get any to help with scholarships. Administration was horrible. Had anxiety about the number of kids in halls and classes and no plan was made. My mom had to work with teachers to develop a plan.
I have had such a great experience at East High School. I am in East High Ambassadors, National Honors Society, Scarlet Squad and more. It's a very diverse school, number 2 of the most diverse schools in Iowa after Hoover High School. We have a great alumni that supports all the students. East High School is a Des Moines Public funded school so money can be a problem at times, the students are middle class or pretty poor but that never stopped me or other students from helping our community. If I would like anything to change it would be for the Des Moines Public schools district to fund in the school more and to stop cutting great class that have been engraved at our school for years. I am in many clubs and from being at the clubs at East I have learned that we always do everything for the betterment of the younger generation and for our community because if we ourselves don't make change who will make change for us?
I enjoyed the culture I was able to get at East. Some other schools around the Des Moines Metro do have as much diversity.
Explaining all four of my years at East High School would take a lot more than 1000 characters. Back to freshman year, walking into a high school with East, West, etc. wings was an easy panic attack, luckily the staff helped tremendously! I always had at least one staff member there for me. Fortunately, for me I had one specific teacher that will truly always have a place in my heart. She would help me with a lot of non-school related stuff and really helped guide me back to what was most important. Teachers staying respectfully involved is no shocker at East High School. My four years at East I was involved with choir, theatre, handbells, solo fest, honor choir, show choir, volleyball, unity dance squad, softball, rugby, track and field, basketball, scarlet squad, baseball, football, the tribe, office helper, and much more! The staff really pushed students to get involved with the extracurricular activities. I will truly miss my high schools days at that memorable school.
One thing that I absolutely like about East high is our sense of community. The East side pride is definitely there and I can feel it at every football game or pep rally. One downfall of East is the lack of discipline for the students. Many troublesome students disobey staff and teachers all the time, but they never get punished. It really is a joke and I feel like students have more power of over the “authoritative” figures.
East High School is the largest school by population size in Iowa. The school has a very diverse student body with close knit staff members. I've met personable teachers and advisors at the school.
Why East? I don't love East just for the colors, because I do truly love and adore East's colors. But the community here has sprouted to something beautiful and admiring. I feel as if everyone here fits in and there isn't any particular group your assigned to. I have always felt I'm welcomed in any group or class and never felt left out in group work. Yes, us East students have our up and downs but if we didn't we wouldn't be humans, life is never just perfect there is always going to flaws visible or not. I think East just needs more school pride overall but us East students have the drive to bring in more pride as a overall school.
i love this schools and everyone in it. its a school where everyone puts there all into there school work and toys there best to succeed. the teachers put there all into the students and you couldn't ask for anything better.
East is an extremely diverse school. Commonly considered the least of the Des Moines schools, no student is stuck up like in the other, richer schools, and a shooter would not make it down a hall before getting jumped by ten different students. Having learned how to navigate the school and students, I feel very safe there.
There was some things I believe could be improve on, such as being ready for college and find a way for students to be more engaged in class. The food for the school can be improve as well so that students chose to stay for lunch instead of going out for their own food. This way students would not be in a hurried to eat along with being late to class. Overall, I liked East High school. It was a fun four years and I was lucky to have great teachers.
