Overall I have had a good experience at East High School. I have been a student at East since I was a freshman and I am now a senior. The teachers are very supportive and are always there for you however they can be. Being at East High School you feel like you are part of a huge family. It is also very easy to get involved at this school. I am apart of Scarlet Squad. In this group we do a lot of volunteering and our school and around our community. I couldn’t imagine myself at any other school.
To me East is a place where minorities come to learn, feel welcomed, and cared for by their peers, teachers, and counselors. East is an outgoing school that excepted me and provided me with the academics and help I needed to be on the path to success. I was given classes that I wanted and got to meet new students and great teachers. East is a diversified school where everyone treats each other with respect. I got to join clubs and sports that I could play with friends. There is a lot of parent involvement at east, so my parents were able to keep track of my learning. I have learned many new things at East through academics and meeting new people. Without the teachers and administrators caring about me and reminding to go to class, I would be where I am today. They have also helped me be on track for college and helped me overcome obstacles on the way.
East high school opened the doors for a number of opportunities athletically and academically. East also has the largest alumni association in the country which gives out numerous scholarships annually. The motto 'for the service of humanity' is one that the students embody creating a welcoming network and community.
I’m a senior at east high school, I’ve been there for my junior and now I’m a senior but the experience I got there is amazing. The students are so friendly it was not so hard for me to make new friends. I got involved in so many sports and activities because they have so many activities and clubs.
My experience with East High School will different from my companions experience. One thing that everyone can agree on, though, is the diversity East has to offer. I never feel alone because there is not just one specific group taking up the space; everyone is included. If I could go back in time, I'd take advantage of all the academic opportunities East has given me. Not many places allow you to retake tests whenever you want. Although I wish I took more advantage of retakes and such, I also wish the curriculum was more difficult. I do not feel as prepared for college as I should and for that, I am scared to take on what's next. East has a bad reputation and we continue to beat those stereotypes one by one each day. As long as everyone is where they are suppose to be, it is a safe and wonderful place to be in. The administrators/staff are so involved and I feel like we're friends when we pass each other. Overall, I liked East Highschool and I can honestly say I'm going to miss it.
For the last four years I've been at this school, it has treated me well. Aside from the academic aspect, the people and community itself has taught me so much. Though the school doesn't have the best resources and the area isn't the safest, everyone comes together to make the most of it. This school has served its purpose.
I enjoyed attending East High School because of the racial and culture diversity. The school was very inclusive, holding activities for all races, cultures, and traditions. For example there was an activity for "dia de los muertos" arranged by students. This is another interesting and unique aspect of East High School. Students who are passionate about a certain subject, or want to raise awareness on a subject, are able to hold activities, participate in events, and even create clubs. For example, two East students started a club where students were able to have a voice and address their opinions and concerns on certain topics such as the school board and racial diversity.
i enjoyed the great diversity and inclusiveness of the school. theres a club for any thing you might enjoy, the teachers are nice and care about the well beings of the students the administration and staff are very friendly and give a warm "hello!" in the mornings
Overall I take more good than bad away from my time here some teachers genuinely change my life While others could have been better however I was grateful to receive call the opportunity while in high school which helped me in the long run
EAST HIGH SCHOOL OVERALL IS VERY DIVERSE AND WELL ROUNDED. BEING ABLE TO BE SURROUNDED BY ALL TYPES OF SKIN COLORS IS MIND OPENING.
I think that for the most part, I enjoyed my high school experience at East high. Everyone has their own perspective and opinion about the school and I respect that. I believe that the school was very inclusive, each group had their own preferred group they'd hang out with and it wasn't difficult to make friends. School spirit and culture is very prevalent and its seen in athletic events. The athletic atmosphere was more dedicated to football and track and field and it focused a lot on male sports. The arts were not as well-founded as they should've, but the theater was praised because the teacher took the time and effort to teach their students. They had really great perfomences . I believe that the majority of teachers were helpful and didnt discrimate. I do beleive that the administration and teachers couldv'e done more to prepare students for college. The resources were available for students but it wasnt communicated effectivly which made college process a bit hard.
East high school is a very diverse school and is known to have rivalries. Besides that we are known for being on the east side of des moines. We are known to go through a lot of challenges and tend to overcome them. Our will is what makes us keep going forward. Our community is strong when it's needed the most.
In my opinion this school is one of my favorite I'm not just saying this because I go there I say it because I feel like its a second home. All the teachers and staffs are nice and caring and the diversity in that school it he highest in the district. we all understand each other and make each other feel better and when it comes to sports as students we respect other schools and we love to bring school spirit.
It's not a bad bad tool in your pocket if your looking for extra money to put towards your education.
It was an okay school , there was a lot of fights though. I did like how much diversity there was throughout the school.
Too many students in classes. Underfunded by the state! Teachers have too many classes that they teach and not enough prep times. They have to meet with many kids before and after school to make sure they get it. I was one of those kids. Without those teachers, I wouldn’t have done as well. The teachers are amazing! Counselors, were great at the beginning, but couldn’t get any to help with scholarships. Administration was horrible. Had anxiety about the number of kids in halls and classes and no plan was made. My mom had to work with teachers to develop a plan.
I have had such a great experience at East High School. I am in East High Ambassadors, National Honors Society, Scarlet Squad and more. It's a very diverse school, number 2 of the most diverse schools in Iowa after Hoover High School. We have a great alumni that supports all the students. East High School is a Des Moines Public funded school so money can be a problem at times, the students are middle class or pretty poor but that never stopped me or other students from helping our community. If I would like anything to change it would be for the Des Moines Public schools district to fund in the school more and to stop cutting great class that have been engraved at our school for years. I am in many clubs and from being at the clubs at East I have learned that we always do everything for the betterment of the younger generation and for our community because if we ourselves don't make change who will make change for us?
