East High School Reviews
Rating 4.03 out of 5 621 reviews
East has some amazing teachers but is overall underfunded and poorly managed. With about 2,500 kids in total, it is very easy to feel lost and neglected when it comes to support from teachers or staff. Most classes are overcrowded and it is clear that teachers don't want to be teaching freshman or entry level classes. Courses are always too easy or too hard depending on the student, but rare to hear from anyone that pacing of new material is just right. Clubs or activities are a great way to meet people and feel connected. Struggles with school safety are a constant issue. There is no support system for clearly struggling kids, and it is incredibly difficult to get the school to honor accommodations for mental or physical health. Information about college or any part of the application process is dreadfully limited. Counselors are overworked and frankly don't care. Getting East to properly send records or participate in your college process is so difficult.
My overall experiences being a student at East High school has been beyond wonderful. I had rough start to high school, as I spent my freshman year online during lock down due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. So least to say, starting my first day of in person school in my sophomore year was nerve wracking. Although I was a sophomore, it felt like I was a freshmen all over again. Getting lost and running around the school trying to find my class was how my first day of school went. After that day, I remember feeling upset and worried about the rest of my school year. Though thankfully, I had the opportunity to see East High School's wonderful community blossom. I have met amazing people that I'm grateful to call my friends and serval amazing teachers that support me throughout my high school career.
My experience at Denver East High School has been a roller coaster. When I first came to East as a freshman, I was closed off, but the large variety in personalities surrounding me as the school hold about 2,500 students allowed me to open up and find my own personality. Not only did being surrounded by a diverse group of students help me, but also the variety of teachers who not only help me learn, but help me be a better person and serve as a role model that I can trust and look up to. However, recently there have been two shootings at our school, which were devastating not only for the victims, but for the East community as well. After these shootings happened, the East community has only grown closer and since then, we have been working towards increasing the safety for the students at East to make it a better learning environment. Since then, the community has fought by protesting and advocating for the victims of the shootings, Overall, East has only learned to be more positive.
