EGHS can be very rigorous at times. However, though it is hard to do well, it is also hard to fail. In general, the teachers and understanding and want to help you learn. The student body is also fairly tight-knit and it is a welcoming environment. However, due to recent issues with the administration, there is a sense of dissatisfaction among the student body and there has been related vandalism. Additionally, there are a few teachers who are protected by the administration that do not have the students' best interests in mind. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience at EGHS, but I fear it's heading down an unfavorable path.
Most of the teachers are decent, with a few exceptions. The cleanliness of the whole institution, however, is abysmal. There are also limited resources available. I take French class there, and the books we are provided are practically falling apart and have to be attached with tape. The sports teams are great, yet we have limited equipment. Plus, it can be difficult to meet new people and branch out.
East Greenwich High School is a nice public high school that offers an education and resources that reflect the wealth of the town. Because of this, many students go on to further their education at prestigious universities and colleges. While the staff does an excellent job of ensuring students are ready for college, they sometimes forget that college isn’t what all students see in their vision of their future. Although this isn’t a major issue, it’s definitely something that could be improved. The school culture can be very competitive, which is necessary for advancement and success, but can create an atmosphere of stress and anxiety too. If the school were to improve access to the school psychologist and increase social-emotional learning in the classroom, this would likely change. Overall, I’ve enjoyed my experience at this high school and believe it’s a nice place filled with good people, even though there can always be improvements.
