EFHS is a public school in WV that has a consistent problem with administration-to-parent communication and bullying. Over my time at EFHS, there were multiple threats to students safety, yet parents never heard about them. Bullying was rampant, especially when based in sexuality and gender orientation/presentation, but the administration did nothing about it when informed. Even when parents would come in to talk about the bullying issues, the staff would downplay the severity. When the victim would fight back against their bully, both would be punished. Facebook became the main source for parents to hear what was happening in their child's school, but EFHS would consistently deny there was a problem. Honestly, the only good thing about this school is a very select group of teachers that made the whole experience worth it.
Hello my name is Jalen Marshall and I am an Alum of East Fairmont High School. My time at EFHS was a very rough time in my life. EFHS is located in Fairmont, West Virginia. At my school I faced many forms of racism by students and faculty. The education that the school offered was sub par and didn't really prepare students for anything outside of high school. I only went there to play basketball but I had to wait a year because I transferred to a school in the same county and that was just one of the dumb rules. The year I was finally able to play, I did good the first game but I would later find out that parents and other adults were messaging my coach and telling him not to play me because they didn't want me to succeed. I would later go on to quit the team and it almost ruined my basketball career but I persevered and I graduated with a 3.74!
Being a student at East Fairmont High School I really enjoyed the effort the teachers and administration gives the students from the start of freshman year throughout to the end of senior year to help you stay on track and get ready for college. Everything from the academics to sports teams to clubs is a really great experience and East Fairmont does whatever you need for you to feel safe and at home!
