As an incoming Senior, I would have to say that I'm pretty satisfied with my time at EDHS. The places that this school is lacking is in it's arts departments. The band and choir gets small and pitiful recognition and the theater department might as well be nonexistent. We do one small play every fall and have to beg for funding to replace the lights that were new in the 1970's. Other than that, the school gets a lot of support from the community and we have never had any safety concerns since I've been there. The administration also does a great job running the school and making sure they connect to the community.
For the most part it's not horrible but things need work. The teachers for the most part are perfect. The administration is getting better and there are changes that are starting. There are still many flaws however; the lunch could be better, there is literally no diversity(if your not white, you better be prepared to stick out like a sore thumb.) the opportunities for students who aren't sporty are EXTREMELY limited. We have band and choir who get VERY bad funding. We have a drama club who has to beg for funding (we have lights that we're new in the 1990's and "shocker" need fixing) (that's been a problem for about 5 years now.) and we only do 1 play a year whereas most schools do at least 1 play and 1 musical. Pretty much if it's not sports, people don't care. Oh yeah we also have to pay book fees at the beginning of the year, but have 20 year old curriculums... where does that money go? Any ways it could be better and could be worse.
What I like about East Dubuque is, How some people are friendly and how some teachers care about us kids. What I would like to see change is, How the school doesn't change things for the kids.
