East Chapel Hill has a decent campus and some good staff but the enviroment it produces it quite toxic. Its a school that brews a competitive enviroment and a school with the 2nd biggest white black acheicvement gap in america. It is an enviroment where people get made fun of if they do not take enough ap classes. Also there school can be unreasoinably strict and has terrible cafeteria food.In addition, while a lot of the staff are great teachers some teachers are horrible. They will make you no more work than neccesary and work against not with you.Specifically the chemistry department where most the teachers give an unreasonable amount of work and are really mean.

East is pretty good. Most teachers really prepare students for college, future academics, etc. Most kids are very academically oriented, so there is less school spirit than average. People complain about the food but it's actually really good, with long lines at the beginning of each lunch and a variety to choose from everyday. The school has a very liberal atmosphere, and is pretty accepting also. THere are a variety of extracurriculars to choose from and many classes (ie. APs, PLTW, Biomed .etc) that many students can take/elect to start. Overall, it's a pretty nice school!
I'm a senior from East. To be fair I'm very privileged to go to East. However it's a toxic environment. The only thing the principal cares about is attendance and maintain a perfect record. Which is why we have high test scores. The teachers are okay. You have at least one to two teachers a year that actually know how to balance how to teach and relationships with their students. The rest either don't know how to teach and leave students stressed, don't understand how to relate to their students on a personal level leaving them crying, Or both. Our school spirit isn't that great. But we have a really good lacrosse team women's and men's as well as field hockey. The arts departments are under appreciated due to the lack of promotion. As a senior I just found out this year that we had jazz concerts! Overall East is pretty okay. But when it comes to the toxic competitive environment revolved around grades and a GPA, is it really all that great?
