Unsurpassed variety of classes and preparedness for college or technical post-secondary studies. Excellent facilities and generally terrific teaching staff. They have maintained and delivered on their reputation for rigorous curriculum year after year. My daughter has recognized how much bettter she was prepared than most all of her classmates in college because of her attending East, and we expect the same experience for my son who is a rising senior in '17/'18. They both took advantage of the excellent arts and music programs as well, and have benefitted greatly to round out their education. They've also made many life-long friends, as well as strong bonds with their favorite teachers.
Review East Chapel Hill High School
I've attended East Chapel Hill High School for four years and I've been in Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools since third grade. From a young age, I realized how competitive the school system was and it became more evident in high school with the large variety of AP and Honors classes. There is an atmosphere at East of taking classes solely to raise your GPA and class rank. East is in the "research triangle" and surrounded by two very good universities, Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), which has brought a great deal of diversity. There is also a large variety of clubs at East focusing on all types of interests and the graduation rate of East is very high and it is very surprising to hear that someone dropped out. Compared to many other high schools, our academics, safety, resources, and facilities are a lot better off.
With such a strong emphasis on education, East Chapel Hill High School stands out as an oddity in the midst of other North Carolina public schools; uncommonly high weighted GPA's and test scores permeate the student body and many of these students go to top schools across the nation. While one may assume that with such a strong academic focus East may lag behind in other areas, the opposite is true in this case. Overall, while East has a passive administration and obvious socioeconomic divides, it is a wonderful school focused on academics and preparing its students for college and success.
