East Bay Innovation Academy Reviews

The teachers are incredibly invested in student success. Very small school, so you get close to your classmates and teachers. EBIA is hands-on and STEAM-based and has a college preparatory curriculum. The only reason it's getting a four-star and not a five is because they don't have any sports teams and the school events are limited. However, I played varsity soccer at Skyline Highschool, which was fine!
EBIA is a school that makes explicit efforts to provide to its students opportunities to keep up with learning that is relevant to the college and career atmosphere they will be exposed to later on. However, their major downfall is that there is not much class flexibility. What I mean is the the class catalogue is rather limited there, especially for those who aspire to be artists. This is the case with me, and I realized it too late into high school. On top of that, they are constantly plagued by teacher shortages that require them to rely on available teachers, rather than the best teachers, and that DEFINITELY affects the quality of learning when you have mediocre or inadequate teachers teaching multiple classes. Any other issues that I seriously have with the school are ones that I cannot blame on the school itself. For example, the lack of ADA compliance on the campus they have to rent from Golden Gate Academy comes up as an issue consistently for me and my friends.
The school is in a great location and most of the staff were great at the lower school. Students were subjected to write witness statements without consulting with a parent first when behaviors occur amongst students. This is a prison-to -pipeline mentality. This resulted disciplinary issues that affected large numbers of black and brown students being suspended at a higher rate. Students are marked absent from classes with no follow up to parents which is a safety concern especially if the student has been at school all day. Students are allowed to make up all work that was not completed and/or submitted. The timelines are unrealistic timelines in the "real world" setting the students up for failure. There are real life consequences.
