Eagan Senior High School Reviews
Rating 4.02 out of 5 531 reviews
The best parts about my Eagan High School experience were by far the connections and relationships. The majority of the staff are good teachers and great human beings, which has made my experience overall positive. Most of the kids are great, and I truly feel I have established a couple life long connections, and other positive experiences. The worst part of Eagan High School is the blatant politics with the staff. Higher ranking staff within the school tend to disregard the rules, when it comes to punishment, ie. Making a student stay after school and clean the stadium for two hours bc she was tardy to home room. Some teachers also assume the worst, some seem to lack sympathy for student going through difficult circumstances. I would like mandatory training for all staff that makes them understand that some kids are dealing with difficult situations. They should also have to go through the High School handbook, which states what the proper punishment should be for different offenses.
I have been at Eagan for almost a full school year now, and I have met many wonderful people, both teachers and peers. I have found numerous clubs and teams that are interesting and inclusive, such as the speech and debate teams, along with interact and track. However, there have been a few instances where I have experienced implicit bias or have seen other students, including close friends, be singled out for their race and religion. This bias often comes in the form of teachers who neglect minority students, or consistently mix up their students of color. I think it is important for Eagan teachers to be more aware of instances of racism or discrimination in their classrooms, whether it comes from another teacher or a student. This change can happen through spreading awareness about racism at our school, or working with the school board to implement a proper solution, such as implicit bias training, that could go district-wide.
I started in 2020 as a freshman, I attended both online and in-person that year. The school has sufficient education and a safe environment for most students. I do notice that there is a very 'hands-off' approach when it comes to pretty much anything. The administration and actual teachers do not communicate effectively from my point of view, for example last minute schedule changes for a 2,000 person school are often spread by students themselves.
