My experience at Duke Ellington School of the Arts was nothing short of AMAZING! I was able to be my expressive, artistic self every day while being educated and prepared for college. Along with being prepared for college, Ellington was preparing me for the rest of my life. I was able to hone in on my talent and strengthen my vocal ability. At Ellington I was able to form some lifelong bonds and add to my support system. The teachers genuinely care about the students educational growth as well as growing their talents.
I was able to learn in an environment that was conducive to both arts and education. Having to split time between me studies and my art track, I learned a real-life lesson in time management as well. Ellington is an over all wonderful experience.

Overall good experience but improvements are needed. The academics teachers understood students were balancing an arts curriculum & maintained a good balance of work. The counselors provided college support. The academic offerings were misleading. They marketed 4 years of world language but only had Spanish II.Dual Enrollment is hard to include with their long schedule.Should have better connections with Georgetown University.Great support in writing; however, something intentional needs to be done to improve students math skills.Too often school administrators were non-responsive or slow to respond. The lack of extra curricular activities (aside from arts) can affect college admissions/scholarships.Effort should be made to find time to include & expand time for student activities. It felt at times like a private school.I can see how students from lower income families may have challenges. Some arts areas clearly had preferential treatment. Parents groups appeared clickish & not inclusive.
My name is Anaiah Rice and I attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts, all four years, majoring in dance. Duke Ellington School of the Arts is a very life preparing high school. I was taught discipline, determination, and all the other qualities you need to know to survive in the artistic industry. The school is very family oriented and all the teachers are focusing on the success of the students. I recommend Duke Ellington to anyone who is serious about their craft. The amount of knowledge and wisdom that is walking around imbedded in the teachers and staff is unbelievable. A great school, honestly!
