Honestly i really like my high school experience here at DSST Mont view, they offer so many college opportunities, there's so many clubs for so many interests, sports , diversity & inclusivity, advanced classes and prepare you overall for college. I'm black and Muslim growing up I've been to 8 different schools but I've never been as accepted by my community and have as many friends as i did in this school. The only 2 things I would say is the the school and system is very controlling considering we are going into college independent, and the school doesnt have many school lunch options that are vegetarian or halal. but overall i love it here if I had to switch i wouldn't!
Overall, I think the school has great course selections for people specifically interested in STEM. Many opportunities to further interests outside of school are presented to students by teachers and staff. I also like that there are small advisories, so students can have one specific teacher they can turn to for help and trust they will advocate for them. I also enjoy how most of my teachers treat me like a person and have built relationships with me in the classroom. I am encouraged to ask questions and push myself to achieve my fullest potential. The community is also strong because it’s a smaller school, so you have the opportunity to know everyone around you. Though these are good things about the school, I would also want to push them to offer more programs in the Arts. Many of the art programs have small budgets and little attention. I wish DSST to consider asking for a higher budget or consider doing more fundraising. This money could be used to help the arts program.
My experience with DSST: Montview High School is good, as a student here since freshman year, & now a senior here. DSST: Montview High School acquires excellent academic opportunities. Amazing resources when it comes to college readiness. The college success team here is very devoted and excellent. As far as diversity, the staff could use some diversity, although, when you see the student body here, you'll see all walks of life. Activities and clubs here could use some improvement as well, since they don't really offer a lot of options for the students here.
