DSST: GVR high school is a good school in which educators do their best to ensure that students are well supported academically, and College readiness. The school has a very strong College team to assist students in their college searches and help students to weigh their options for colleges (getting into a good and affordable college). As good as it sounds the schools as a lot of areas in which they need to grow, For examples: There is not much variety in Clubs and after school activities, not taking accusations against certain people seriously and not properly listening to students voices regarding workload and mental state. Lots of educators are insensitive and say ignorant things which is off putting for many people. Despite this things, it is a diverse, good enough school that put students academically success above everything else.
DSST has an exceptional amount of diversity, which in turn, creates a more accepting and cultured environment. I have not seen or experienced any kind of bullying here; in fact, being different is a good thing. The teachers are passionate and care about the students there, and spend many hours after and before school assisting students in both school and home problems. They definitely prepare you for college; they actually over-prepare you and freshman year seems like cake! The sports program isn't the greatest, but the academics are. One criticism I have is that they have a large focus on getting into college, but not how to stay. The majority of my graduating class is no longer enrolled in college, and they did not complete their freshman year.
DSST has been an amazing school as I have been there from middle school through high school. It has put a huge emphasis on getting their students to college and setting them up to be successful in college. If not college, then the student's choice of a secondary career or education. The student environment has been incredibly inclusive and has worked towards building the school's community to be closer through fun competitions or even just advisory time. Because of this, people were able to make friends far easier than they would have been at a much bigger school. The school also works towards educating people about the school's diversity, especially through morning meetings where students lead and teach about their own culture.
