This is a crowded school. Not personal. Each teacher has 150 kids + per day and your child may feel lost. This school "teaches to the test". For example, a 6th grade ELA class (Dreamcatcher team)will be spent with the teacher handing students a reading passage and they must spend the period answering close reading and fact finding questions that resemble SAT prep...very boring and tedious...this isn't teaching for the joy of increasing knowledge, it's a flat-out LAZY way to conduct a classroom of curious minds. Passionless...everything Ralph Waldo Emerson railed against in his essay on Education. There are some good teachers that try to out-smart the system but don't be fooled by test scores because what they measure and predict is how closely the teachers are teaching to the test AND the economic background kids are coming from--ie. kids with more money have more highly educated parents to help with learning and pay for tutoring.
Amazing school! I was zoned and had an amazing middle school career there and was very involved! I had family members who also went and loved it!
My daughter had the best experience at John Long Middle school. She was in the gifted program, played in multiple sports, and played violin in the orchestra. She was more than ready for high school and continued on to the Cambridge Programme to earn college credits.
