Downingtown High School East Reviews
Rating 4.01 out of 5 298 reviews
Many of my teachers have been amazing. They have given me a quality education and have developed relationships with me. They have really helped me come out of my shell. However, the administration is subpar. They are often unsupportive and students, teachers, and families. They put too much money into Downingtown STEM and often neglect the two other high schools. It provides us with an unfair disadvantage. Additionally, they seem to obsess with the student's test scores and turn away serious mental health issues within the district. There have been multiple suicides in past years and admin has done nothing to prevent or draw awareness to it, only the teachers do. Finally, the admin takes away the fun things about school like our rivalry spirit and heavily limits the amount of school spirit we can have.
My teachers are all very nice and do try hard to accommodate for individual learning needs, however my school counselor is very condescending, misogynistic, and comes across as a little racist towards me and some of my peers. He did not believe me or my parents about my ADD diagnosis until he saw my high SAT score and then started to think that we were telling the truth about my diagnosis. However, this came about at the end of my junior year, which is a little unhelpful at this point. In the future, I would love see more steps taken towards helping neurodivergent students that may be ahead of their peers, that still need accomodations to help them fulfill their potential.
East has incredible staff, learning opportunity, extracurricular opportunity, and so much more. This school has so much to offer and produces extremely successful kind-hearted students. The community is united and supportive, the classes are advanced and engaging, and the opportunity is unparalled to any school I have heard of. Some kids get to drive over to colleges like UPenn and take advanced courses with them!
