As a current senior at Downingtown East, I can say that although it provided me with an outstanding education, the bulk of the teachers are, frankly, subpar. I've had maybe two to four teachers total that I've connected with and genuinely liked over all four years. The school also promotes an environment of academic competitiveness that is highly unhealthy, mentally and physically, for students. As a student who currently takes 4 AP classes, I am up until midnight or later almost every night trying to teach myself the material that my teachers simply don't and doing countless busywork assignments. However, the schools has provided me with a great education and given me responsibility and time management skills that have prepared me for college. The extracurricular activities it offers are widely varied and enjoyable, and the music program (which I am very actively involved with) is fantastic.
Review Downingtown High School East
I love the learning atmosphere about Downingtown East and how the students and teachers are really helpful. It is a good learning environment and there are many opportunities for students to experience their career before going into college through the option of the Technical College High School. For example, Allied Health is a program allowing students to experience a hospital setting before going to college so that they know the field is right for them.
I enjoyed my time at Downingtown East for the most part. Some of the teachers there are horrible and do not teach at all; however, they represent a small portion of the teaching staff. The rest of the teachers at this school are amazing teachers who care about their students and want them to succeed in life.
My one major complaint about the school is the technology and WiFi. Everything else about the school is up to date, but the technology stinks and the WiFi only works in certain areas of the school. For example, when it rains, it seems like the WiFi for the entire school malfunctions and just shuts down.
