Douglas Middle School Reviews

The clichés are divided into military dependents and non-military dependents. There is the assumption that if you are non-military you and your family are poor and received food stamps, HUD, etc. The school administrations assumes that also so they can obtain additional funding for all of the disadvantage students

There also seems the be preference for military dependents when it comes to sports teams. Douglas's sports program is a joke and will always be a joke as long as preference is giving to children that relocate every few years. You can't build the team/program if your rooster is constantly changing.

The near by Air Force Base (ellsworth afb) put a large amount of pressure on the school to cater to the military dependent children. One of school board members is the Vice Commander of the base. He isn't elected, but given the position because of his rank. Therefore his preference is for Officer children (and to a lesser amount the children of the enlisted in order to shut of the whiny voice of those stay at home moms.

Also if two children get into an dispute or fight, the school will side with the military dependent because their parent is part of the military the therefore of "upstanding" quality, and the non-military child will shoulder all of the blame because they are assumed to be from a disadvantaged home and of course trouble makers.

To fully understand this you must be from the area and understand the demographics of Box Elder (the town the school district is in). Box Elder is a small backward thinking community that is full or 1970 rental trailers, drug dealers, and child molesters, etc. It is a horrible community.

The school district would be much better off if they separated themselves from the military base and stopped believe that the base is somehow special and needs to be catered to.
