So far for my high school experience, I would say it has been decently spent here. The sports teams are amazing, and fun to watch with fellow students! Most of the teachers here are pretty kind, and willing to help their students when needed. They offer tons of different clubs for different interests, and fun activities after school. The diversity here is decent, it really could be better. Although there is a-lot of pros while attending here, a few cons is that the admins don’t take students problems as serious as they should. I hope my next two years spent here are even better!
The school holds some of the and friendliest and most knowledgeable teachers compared to most high schools in the district. However, the school's reputation for making terrible decisions and allowing the questionable treatment that staff members' have towards students tarnishes that greatness. The school is known for making alterations that impact teachers and students negatively and is also known for its lack of communication. When a dangerous event occurs, such as a threat made by a student, the school ignores the situation to proceed as usual. Only rarely do we have lockdowns when a gun threat occurs, and they do not disclose that information to parents. Some of the staff, as well as a few teachers, create a very toxic environment for students. The mistreatment is not only tolerated but encouraged in my opinion. It is very hard to live in this environment if the staff members automatically assume you are a misbehaving teenager.
Doherty is a good school to go to. Very good athletics teams it’s very fun to watch the games that Doherty plays. Academics are good we have a strong science and math environment. Teachers are good just some seem to care more then others. Over all, Doherty is a nice place to be. What I think Doherty should add to the school is a STEM class or even club. I feel students would love this and if it gets put into more high schools more kids would want to go into the STEM field. Or even add more engineering classes. I had a STEM class in elementary school and different types of engineering classes in middle school so why shouldn’t the high schools offer more? I feel that Doherty offered the bare minimum when it came to its classes but each year more and more students come but after a couple years a lot of them switch schools. Could this be happening because of the lack of opportunities for different types of classes students could be interested in? I believe this could be a reason why.
