Discover Canyon Campus High School Reviews

I've been in the Discovery Canyon Campus High School every since Freshman year. Definitely the best thing about the school in my opinion is the art side of it. Whether it's visual or performing, I've always enjoyed the classes. Although it comes with some bias because art and music are my forte, but the experiences and the friends I've made along the way have made the whole high school experience beautiful. On the other hand, some of the staff and students have not been the best. I am considered a quiet kid so making friends was and still is hard for me. We are also losing teachers and the ones that I do have are not the best. I would like to see the school be more aware of how their students feel and how little some of their staff works for students to have academic success. All that aside, it won't stop me from having a good high school experience.
When moving back to Colorado in the early summer of 2023 to start my senior year in the fall, having spent my junior year in Sweden, doing the IB diploma program, I am fortunate to say that my family decided on Discovery Canyon Campus as the school for my final year. Thus far, I have felt that it's the best high school I have attended in all my years of schooling, where I believe its positives outweigh the negatives. Moreover, the major positive about the high school at Discovery Canyon Campus in Colorado Springs is the proactive attitudes of its teachers and administration. I have felt that they have done their absolute best to accommodate my transition back into school in the U.S. and into another IB school and that they have genuinely been interested in my education. If I could point out a negative it might be the lack of seating and such for breaks, as the only seats beside the cafeteria are outside, which should change in the school putting more seating indoors.
I like the people at DCC and the fact that there are multiple niches to fit into here instead of just the stereotypical jocks, nerds, and cool kids. You can be a part of a club like FBLA and still be a very good football player! I like most of the teachers here, although the math department specifically could be improved. The teachers who teach AP classes are very knowledgeable and many of them hold graduate degrees in their subject. Unfortunately, AP classes are being phased out but I think with more schools accepting the IB curriculum, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. More sports could be added, as ice hockey, lacrosse, and field hockey are three main ones that aren't represented. Despite this, I am an athlete and love our strength and conditioning program. Our volleyball, basketball, and football teams are very competitive, however, attendance at these games is very low and school spirit could be higher. The drug/alcohol use is minimal compared to other Colorado Springs schools.
