Dickerson Middle School Reviews
Rating 3 out of 5 14 reviews
Excellent ELA department, and 8th grade teachers generally wonderful. Math department also strong, but class size is a problem. Outstanding Spanish instruction but not offered until 8th. Current principal is energetic and communicates well with parents. The school is too small for the number of students it serves, with classes upwards of 25 students. Science department and resources underwhelming.
As a former student at Dickerson Middle School, it was unfortunately not a very good experience for me. I am lucky to be gifted in academics, since the classes were never super challenging for me, but the social environment is terrible, except if you fit into the crowd. As a student with an IEP, the students were not only mean to me, but the IEP program at Dickerson is terrible. They only handle visible disabilities well, not invisible disorders, like mine. Also, some of the teachers were too strict, and assigned far too much homework. Lastly, the dress code was ridiculous. As a girl, you cannot wear any shorts or skirts unless they were no farther up than 1 inch above the knee, shoulders cannot be shown, and leggings were prohibited. Despite all of this, the music programs are AMAZING. Shoutout to the band program; 100/10 I recommend. Also, the academics are pretty good. Overall, 2 stars; the one extra star is only due to the band program.
Honestly, many children there are racist and homophobic. Good school if you are a white conservative. Most of the teachers do not care about you, most only care about making the school look good. The teachers are working for themselves, not the students. The very small portion of teachers that really do care about my or other students' education are the ones who got me through middle school. Yes, I guess it is an okay school, but its just se sad to go to, I always felt that the days were on repeat and I was feeling depressed. The COUNSELORS do not care about the kids, well, maybe some do but in my experiences, they never really helped.
