If you are into STEM and are looking to improve your skills and get recognized by colleges, this is the place to be. The robotics team here at DHS is decorated with many achievements. (Unsurprisingly, the football team tends to get the most attention, but that's technically the case at almost every school). There is an entire building space dedicated to robotics members to work on new projects. Many students stay after school for several days a week from 2:30 to after 7 pm and sometimes late nights on the weekend too. This goes to show the amount of effort everyone puts into the team. In addition to being effective on the competition field, the team's determination to promote STEM education has placed it as a powerhouse in spreading the mission of FIRST, advocating #growFIRSTfaster!
The best thing about this school is the unique opportunities it offers its students that you can't find at any other school. For example: The satellite center was designed for Destrehan and Hahnville juniors and seniors to take part in classes that provide exciting learning experiences that test the boundaries of traditional classrooms and prepares our youth for the world in which they will live and work. Students get to work on real-world, challenging projects using the latest equipment, technology, and industry-based methodology. Throughout my years at DHS, I have learned that the community here is very tightly knit because everyone has one goal: seeing our students succeed and reaching their full potential with the help of supporting staff and teachers.
I rated my experience of being a student at Destrehan high school as excellent because I was constantly surrounded by teachers, administrators, coaches, and counselors who not only cared about me as a person, but cared about my future too. There are so many academic opportunities (Ex: Advanced studies aka honors program, scholarship entries, etc.), sports teams (swim, tennis, etc.), and clubs (FCA, beta club, culture club, etc.) offered here as well as many dedicated and hardworking teachers and staff members. Students will get all the help they need to succeed as long as they show that they are willing to take the time and do the work necessary to accomplish their goals and prepare for the next level. This school offers classes at the Satellite Center for juniors and seniors who are focusing on college and career readiness in specific fields of their choice that interests them.
