I had a very difficult time acquiring accommodations as a new student from Canada. My 504 plan took nearly 4 months to process, leaving me with little to no flexibility from my teachers. However, my grades dramatically improved during second semester, and I was able to speak more with my teachers about how I can excel in their classes and become a more well-rounded student. My peers were very welcoming here, however, and were more than willing to take me under their wing. As a student moving from Canada, adjusting to an American School was very difficult, however my experience at Desert Mountain has led me to become more of an activist for myself, and has overall propelled my leadership skills with the plethora of clubs available for students here. Though I am not involved in many sports, there are still a range of programs for a new junior such as myself to get involved in, which helped me find my place at Desert Mountain. I am looking forward to my senior year, and what I can learn!

I have enjoyed all of the different opportunities DMHS has brought to me and the variety of activities, clubs, and classes it offers to students. Although I am not in it, the IB program is fantastic. Our performing arts programs do not get the recognition they deserve and are AMAZING! I am only withholding one star because I have come across some teachers in my AP classes that are shockingly incompetent, but I understand that there is a teacher shortage and it is difficult to find quality teachers.
I am currently a senior in the IB program at Desert Mountain high school and my high school experience here has been phenomenal. The academics in the IB department are truly great as the teachers not only emphasize analytical thinking through lectures, homework, and assessments, but also critical thinking through class discussions, group projects, and presentations. This academic structure definitely prepares the students for college as the workload and type of classes are similar to that of a college class. This clearly shows since many of the students attend many great colleges and thrive in their environment. The administration and resources are outstanding as the principal and the head college and career center are solid people and definitely were great mentors during my high school career. If you want a great education along with being surrounded by the nicest administrators, Desert Mountain is the place to be!
