Desert Academy is on the rise! Can other schools in Santa Fe boast these college acceptances? Duke, Harvard, Lehigh, Stanford, Brown, Princeton, Smith, Washington University, University of Chicago, University of London, University of Montreal, Barnard, and Parsons School of Design. They have initiated a social emotional learning program, partnerships with non-profits in town, and are embracing diversity through initiatives in bringing students from hardship countries, local pueblos, and throughout the city. The International Baccalaureate system is the best curriculum. It has helped my daughters move step by step towards high level courses and college acceptance to top schools- with scholarships! My oldest daughter got 24 credits with her IB diploma. Finally, the school bends over backwards to make things work for your child and works hard to making it engaging. Really, you need to visit this school.

My daughter started in middle school at Desert Academy and is still there, getting stronger by the day. We have been much impressed with her improvements in writing, research and thinking for herself. She has become so much more thoughtful about education and the world. Students are not taught to just memorize at Desert. They actually solve problems and they actually learn the why and how behind things. Teachers can coordinate projects together across subjects and make sure the progression from one level to another is there and smooth. The low numbers of students per teacher in class allow for lots of real discussion. Kids can't just disappear like in large school classrooms. The faculty are all accessible to parents and students. They even show up to students outside events and support kids on their own time!

A plus is that the school lunches have healthy options and all kinds of foods. The exact menu is never repeated twice the entire year!
I came to Desert in 8th grade after being in a public school. It was definitely a real challenge at first, but now in 9th grade I am doing really well academically and participate in three sports: volleyball, basketball and track. I am also able to go to New York to sing in Carnegie Hall with Lisa Lincoln. I have really good friends. At Desert the "cool kids" are the nice students. Teachers really go out of their way to support students. I love my classes and can't wait to take photography, film, and maybe DP theater. I am so glad my sister convinced me to come to Desert. Oh, the lunches are amazing!
