The 2018-2019 school year was my first year attending Derby High School. In the blink of an eye, the school year was already over and it's hard to believe that I am a sophomore now! I had a few teachers that caused a few patches in the road, but overall, the handful of amazing teachers at Derby positively changed my experience at DHS. With the teachers that I was fortunate enough to have, my learning experience was enriched and my freshman year was both seamless and enjoyable. All of the students at DHS have incredible pride for their school (including me!) and we love to boast our school colors: black, white, and green on Friday football nights!

As a senior who has gone to Derby High School all four years, lived in the district since I was born, and been involved in athletic, artistic, and leadership programs for the school, I feel qualified to give a proficient review of the school. I am appreciative of the quality and wide range of advanced placement and college classes offered, the school's cooperation with NMSI, and the way the administrators cultivate an environment of appreciation for students who challenge themselves, rather than one of resentment and exclusion. The importance placed on athletics, particularly football, is understandable with teams who usually qualify for state. However, the money allotted to the athletic program could be distributed to other areas, as the effects of insufficient funds to the arts are weighty. My overall experience has been great, mostly due to the environment of teachers and administration who support involvement in higher level classes.
Derby High School was inclusive and diverse. It maintained a safe environment and all of the classes are pretty easy to comprehend as long as you pay attention. Teachers also pay attention to your progress and strive to make up the difference. For example, if you're flying through a course, they would offer a Pre-AP or AP class but if you're struggling, they strive to help you understand the material. I had good memories and felt very safe. I highly recommend this school to everyone
