Being a student at Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School was a neat experience. There is a great amount of school spirit, or as they like to call it, DY Pride! I have been a huge part of the music program over there and it is just outstanding! The instructors are truly competent and welcoming. The same goes for all the other teachers. Almost every one of them wants to see their students at their best and will stop at nothing to make sure they achieve greatness!
Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School overall has been an enjoyable experience- with obviously some shortcomings -but should not be overlooked for an educational experience. The school does attempt to reach out and ensure that students are engaged with learning. While they do fall short of interacting and informing students at appropriate times of important changes and upcoming events, the school throughout the years has been learning to adapt and change such attitudes. The teachers, for the most part, are encouraged and passionate about their job. They enjoy teaching about their topic and chose the profession for more than just the money; they want to see their students improve. The guidance department wants to see their kids thrive and be excited for the future, whether that be by assisting them with future career endeavors or by helping them apply to the common application. In essence, despite the downsides of the school, it's a community striving for the best for its students.
I loved DY! Mostly the faculty, all the teachers, staff and administrators were very kind and always willing to help and give an ear to your voice. What I would change is the awareness of clubs and organizations. I believe clubs help prepare students for the real work and keeps them involved in school and out of school. I am now a college student and I am involved in 4 clubs, the president of 1 and the vice president of the rest and I love it! I am ready to take on more responsibility now that I am in college in high school I wasn't aware therefore the confidence I have now is built from my club involvement.
