Denham Springs Highschool is in m opinion the best school in our district. Our school has clubs and sports for just about anyone. The school offer numerous courses anywhere where from psychology to drone flying. We recently got a STEM center which is my favorite part of the school. However I find the overall staff and administration hard to work with. They are very set in their ways and special situations are not a concern of theirs. I generally feel like they don't care some times. However every other aspect of our school is average to great!
I liked that Denham Springs High has a good sense of school pride. I would have liked to see a more diverse student and faculty group and a stronger emphasis on academics.
Great environment with an tremendous amount of options for students to choose interest in. Teachers are very helpful
They provide various ways to succeed in high school, in college, and in life. They also provide many resources outside of school hours so that they ensure our success.
The level of education and teaching is great as far as core subjects goes and I feel very well prepared for core classes in college. Other classes do not really pay attention to detail or just don’t teach at all so I would have to learn things on my own. The atmosphere is decent but it could use more involvement as far as student activities go.
Hi! I'm Malaysia Scott, a sophomore at Denham Springs High School. I have attended DSHS for two years and overall it's been a good two years. The teachers are pretty good at their jobs. They fulfill their duty to teach me the courses that I need to know and I grasp the concepts very easily. DSHS also includes many opportunities to alter any bad grades. For those who tend to struggle with some subjects they offer in person and online tutoring. They also have a program called academic recovery which allows any student who's missing any assignments to complete the assignments after school. The administration is nice and understanding they care about their students and take any chance they get to socialize with them. They also have benefits like the student run business called the Jacket's Nest. The shop offers things like school merchandise, earphones, color pencils, and other necessities that a student may need to have a successful school year. I'm proud to be apart of DSHS.
The class schedule is set for an 1 hour and 45 minutes for each class. Most teachers do not plan their classes around this time frame. Most of the time students are left to sit on their phones, watch movies, or to sleep. You could fit more lesson plans and learning into this time instead of having kids sit there bored.
I would like to see teachers calling out students for racism and homophobia. I believe the school should also care more about bullies rather than dress code. We also need more languages being taught like sign language and French.
The experience was pretty average I would say. I wish they would change the layout of the classes so you didnt have to take 7 classes every single day but I enjoyed my time there. I also wish they advocated the AP courses more so I could have gotten an earlier start but whatever.
I love how much the teachers care for our educational development. They put a tremendous amount of effort into our success.
I have worked here for 20+ years and there has never been a day I did not enjoy coming to work! The best admin, students, & faculty to do life with. I’m the blessed one!!!
This school has a ton of opportunities for students! There's something for everyone. My experience with the staff is that everyone is professional, and they take education seriously. Great place to send your students.
My favorite part of DSHS is the teachers who are involved in their students education. Most prioritized students’ learning and taught to the best of their ability. On the other hand, some of the teachers did not care about their students success. In the same day, I have had the opportunity to be taught by the smartest person I have ever met and the most uncaring person I have ever met. If I had the chance to move schools, though, I would not because the good significantly outweighs the bad.
Denham Springs High School will mark my life as a right of passage. Throughout my years there, I have learned that the most important thing a successful high school needs is a loving community having it's back. DSHS has taught me to never give up on my dreams and that there will always be someone who is looking out for me. I believe that every high school should feel as warm and welcoming as Denham Springs did. From the Great Flood of 2016, standing at our classmates graves, to the Covid Pandemic, Denham Springs High School was there for us in a way that only a tight-knit community could be. Being a DSHS athlete was one of the best feelings to experience. Going to practice everyday and just being with a team and coaches that were so dedicated really made the impossible seem doable; like beating West Monroe, number 3 in the state. I got to know the people I call my best friends and even my family through attending DSHS and I wouldn't trade it for the world, so thank you Denham, always.
Denham Springs High School is a great school that offers many programs to get you ready for college. They offer many AP classes, CLEP tests, and many other programs. If you are not ready for college, they offer programs for you too. Principal Howard is great. He makes you feel as though you are a valued student and not just another kid or number. Most of the teachers are great too. So far I have enjoyed my time at Denham Springs High School.
Denham springs is a pretty good school. Most of the teachers are really nice and helpful. The sports could be better but that does not affect your academics. The school couls aslo be updated a little.
From my perspective Denham springs is not a very good school. The disciplinary system has many flaws and being a black in a predominately white school you could see my discomfort. The education is average, you got the disinterested teachers attempting to teach the troublesome students.
