The Delbarton Externship Program, DelEx

The Delbarton Externship Program (“DelEX”) creates an opportunity for rising seniors to connect with alumni and parents, explore career opportunities, and extend learning beyond school boundaries. Selected alumni and parents of alumni in private enterprise or public service offer brief training programs to students at the end of the school year (typically late May and June).

I cannot exaggerate how special of a place Delbarton is. Sport culture is not toxic but rather makes the school diversified in a way that creates a culture of collaboration, mutual support, and brotherhood. Delbarton is an absolute diamond in the rough of high-performing, academically-rigorous schools. Having since met kids from top-performing schools around the country, you will never find the lack of competition that exists at Delbarton. Delbarton will make your son a more confident, intelligent version of themselves, and comparing schools' academic rigor in a vacuum, without considering the uncomparable personal development Delbarton students experience, will deprive your son of the most important parts of high school. Only here do the most brilliant students also comfortably integrate themselves in sports, clubs, and the social life of their class. Support culture, brotherhood, and tradition are homogenized in a unique way that you won't see anywhere else.

As a parent, I would implore any parent who has a son to visit Delbarton for a couple of hours one day. Walk the grounds. Speak with the teachers. More importantly, speak with the boys that currently attend the school. The curtain will be pulled back and you will be able to experience the benfits of the Delbarton community. The brilliance and respect of the young men at the school is incredibly impressive. The campus is stunning and you can hear and see the dedication to the students by the teachers first hand. Wonderful institution for any young man to earn a stellar education, lifelong friends and a bright future!
From a student's perspective, Delbarton offers great academics often placing kids into Ivy League schools. Their sports programs are second to none reaching conference and state champions annually especially in lacrosse and baseball. The comradery and feel of the campus make Delbarton a welcoming environment where students and teachers alike challenge each other respectfully. Areas, where Delbarton could work on, is definitely in the art department but especially in the music area. Though the did recently build a state of the art performing arts center the actual program is underfunded. As a clarinetist who annually reaches regionals and other competitions not the best place for music.
