Dekalb School of the Arts taught me how to plan effectively and utilize time management properly. Since Dekalb School of the Arts also has a unique arts program it forces you to have to learn how to balance both the high academic workload of a high-school, and the devotion to practicing an artistic craft. So, overall I think Dekalb School of the Arts does prepare students well for life after high-school by requiring students to develop skills like patience, discipline, adaption, communication skills, and time management. But one thing that Dekalb School of the Arts fails at is strengthening students academic weaknesses. Since the school is not as big as majority of the high schools in the state, there should be more time put into personally helping out each student individually and helping them fill in the academic holes that have been left from previous school experience. Even though the school is an arts school there should be equal effort put into academics as well.

This is school is truly like no other. For all artists, from the clarinet prodigy to the kid who just discovered photography, your passion will be treated just as it is-YOUR PASSION. We are set in a sort of pre-professional matter, as our instructors will treat you like a real world performer. There is a rigorous academic curriculum side, you must keep up with; but every graduate says it only made them much more prepared for college. An honest 8/10, where we lack those two points is infrastructure, due to our county problems.
DSA is a very challenging school. When I first arrived in 8th grade, I was very excited to enter into the high school environment. As the years went on it got tougher (which is normal) but the teachers are sometimes unacceptable. I found that most of the teachers at DSA care about our education but some of them don't, and they can also be very inconsiderate about other work we may have plus having rehearsals, etc. Overall, I would say DSA is a great school for academics and for the performing arts, but for being prepared real life and being treated fairly as a student, this is not the school for that.
