I love the tight-knit community. I love that every student knows every other student. I love the accolades and the academically rigorous environment. No sports, though! More time for the books!

DeKalb Early College Academy does a terrific job at preparing their scholars for a college-going culture. The opportunity to become a dual-enrollment student with Georgia State University allows DECA's juniors and seniors the opportunity to get their foot-in-the-door as a high school student. Although the course load can be a lot at times, the teachers and administrative staff are sure to make themselves available to help the students and ensure that they are on the right track.
What I mostly liked about DECA is the opportunities it provided and also the environment where mostly everyone wanted to succeed. I’ve been to regular public schools where some teachers didn’t care about teaching or the students. Where students did not take their education seriously it was all just a joke. But at this school, it was much different. Now you will always have those few who may have been forced by their parents to attend DECA, but others actually care about getting their education and working towards the career they want in the future and I liked being in an environment where success was a popular attribute. Also going here meant my last two years having classes at the college. I was able to do 2 years free do college, and the summers were free also. I’m able to get my associates the same time I get my high school diploma. Along with this, the professors are great and really care about teaching and the students.
